Now a DOWNLOADABLE E-BOOK for immediate viewing. The case study method is the best way to learn. Take advantage of Dr. Tarantola's 25 years of practicing comprehensive dentistry and 12 years as Clinical Director at The Pankey Institute.
Watch a short DEMO
All cases have pre-op photos and radiographs and a summary of the exam and diagnosis of all the components of the masticatory system: TMJs; muscles; teeth; periodontium; occlusion and esthetics.
The "10 Decisions" when designing the diagnostic blueprint are addressed for every case:
1.condylar position;
2.vertical dimension;
3.lower incisal edge position;
4.upper incisal edge position;
5.centric stops anterior and posterior
6.angle of anterior guidance;
7.curve of spee;
8.curve of wilson;
9.cusp to fossa angle and
10.the esthetic occlusal plane.
Photos of the diagnostic wax-up with the details of the treatment plan and treatment sequence.
Photos of the provisionals and definitive dentistry along with pertinent discussion of important factors and events that may have occurred through out the case.
"Dr. Greg Tarantola has provided the next dimension of continuing education by sharing the arduous journey of treating real patients with real problems. By studying the cases that he has beautifully documented you will begin to develop the discipline of sequencing starting with the blending of comprehensive diagnosis and the art of co-discovery to appreciating the importance of strategic extraction to understanding the role of implant dentistry in the advanced cases. Within the “Case Study Guide” the seasoned clinician will find “the cookbook” that can be applied to even the most complex set of circumstances that present all too often to the restorative dentist. This is the gift that has emerged from Greg’s pursuit of excellence"...Stephen F. Chase, DDS
Here are the cases:
Case 1 Relatively straight forward equilibration case followed by some simple restorative dentistry including direct composites and single crowns. Everyday dentistry with a masticatory system approach.
Case 2 Long term reconstruction case transitioning tooth supported bridges to implant supported crowns. Shows how long term provisionals were used to keep the patient together during the process and protect the integrity of the teeth which will be saved
Case 3 Long term perio-prosthesis case with implants. Busy executive where the case needed to be sequenced and the esthetics of the front teeth has to be delayed till retirement.
Case 4 Upper straightforward crown and bridge. Lower is a transition from a full complement of teeth that structurally and periodontally were compromised to the point that predictable treatment was not possible to a 14 unit FPD on 6 implants
Case 5 Esthetic and occlusal reconstruction where the VDO was opened and teeth lengthened several millimeters.
Case 6 Perio-restorative case where all teeth were saved. Occlusal reconstruction of an anterior open bite that resulted in TMJ and muscle signs and symptoms and restorative failure. Treated with equilibration and judicious composite.
Case 7 Occlusal reconstruction of an anterior open bite with anterior crowns. Transition from an old perio-prosthesis case where the first molars were changed to implants
Case 8 Failing old occlusal reconstruction where some abutments were lost. Non implant approach. Galvano telescope copings with full arch FPD
Case 9 Long term TM/Craniomandibular disorder patient. Several upper anterior teeth with a very guarded prognosis due to bad post placement but patient did not want to lose teeth and get implants. Galvano telescope copings and FPD
Case 10 Long term "esthetic reconstruction" done 10 years prior with all veneers. Many teeth cracked and some fractured and lost due to steep cuspal inclines. Equilibration, restorative, replacement with implants
Case 11 Orthodontics and orthognathics. Managing a TM disorder throughout treatment. Finally, changing some old dentistry and implants to replace missing teeth
Case 12 Old failing reconstruction with teeth lost due to non-restorability and replaced with implants. New esthetic and occlusal reconstruction with all porcelain single unit and FPDs.
Case 13 Periodontally involved teeth saved with conventional perio-restorative approach. Badly broken down teeth restored. Anterior esthetic and functional reconstruction with composite due to financial reasons.
Case 14 Full esthetic and functional reconstruction of amelogenesis imperfecta in 18 year old patient. All teeth present and restored with single visit indirect composite full coverage restorations
Case 15 Esthetic and functional reconstruction. Phased for financial reasons. #9 was lost and replaced with an implant.
